Before I photograph you...
I want to know something about you. I think you should know something about me, too.
What matters most to me isn't simply creating a beautiful portrait. It's creating one that feels unmistakably like you.
That doesn't happen by accident, and it doesn't happen because of lighting, wardrobe, or location. It begins with understanding who you are.
Nothing about a portrait should feel generic.
Once I understand something about who you are and how you want to be seen, those conversations begin to shape the photographs we create. Where we photograph, what you wear, the light, the mood, even how much direction I give you, each decision should have a reason.
The best version of you isn't always available on demand. Neither is the best light, the perfect setting, or the precise moment when everything aligns. My job is to create those conditions, technically, creatively and personally, so that what appears in your portraits isn't left to chance.
We might work in my studio, your home, your office, or somewhere that simply feels right for the story we're telling. The setting, like everything else, is a choice we make together.
Sometimes I find the people I want to photograph. Sometimes they find me.
I am always looking for people who make me curious. Sometimes it's what they've accomplished. Sometimes it's what they're creating, changing, beginning, or becoming. And sometimes there's simply something about a person that makes me want to know more.
I don't need you to arrive with a concept for a photograph. In fact, I'd rather begin with a conversation. If there's a story worth exploring, we'll discover together how photography might tell it.
